Charlotte Perriand. Living Modernism: Design, Photography, Architecture

The Museum der Moderne Salzburg is devoting a major retrospective to Charlotte Perriand, one of the leading figures of 20th-century architecture and design. Presented at the Mönchsberg from 1 May to 13 September 2026, the exhibition explores the breadth of her work through furniture, interior architecture and photography.

The exhibition looks in particular at the period following her departure from Le Corbusier’s studio, after ten years of collaboration. Already involved in several furniture and interior projects that have since become iconic, Charlotte Perriand was then able to develop her own vision more freely, while expanding her practice to include photography, which she used both as a source of inspiration and as an integral part of certain works.

Conceived as a comprehensive reading of her practice, the retrospective highlights a resolutely modern approach: for Perriand, the object was never considered in isolation, but always in dialogue with space, use and environment. In this respect, her work continues to shed light on the way we inhabit spaces, observe our surroundings and think about design today.

Produced by the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, the exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, in close cooperation with the Archives Charlotte Perriand.
