Undesignable: The Vintage Design Alternative in a Digital World
A lifelong passion for 20th-century design has guided Richard Serrault for over two decades, as he’s worked to spotlight iconic vintage pieces and share an authentic curiosity: that of the creators themselves.
He began his journey in the early 2000s at the Paul Bert Market in Saint-Ouen, later moving to Alfies Antique Market in London. Driven by a pan-European vision of design, he went on to live and work in Norway, Denmark, and Berlin.
Between 2002 and 2008, he curated several exhibitions dedicated to French designers and launched a traveling design fair— Undesignable Market — which held five influential editions in Eindhoven, Berlin, and Amsterdam, leaving a mark on the international design scene.
Returning to his native Paris in late 2013, he founded a specialist webzine aimed at design lovers and professionals. Backed by a loyal and engaged community, this initiative gradually evolved into a multi-channel platform, now also known for its regular Paris event: Undesignable Market.
With this new chapter, Undesignable broadened its scope—offering a design price index, curated galleries, enhanced dealer visibility, a dedicated marketplace, and a calendar of events spanning across Europe.
Still driven by a desire to foster connections and spark discovery, Richard introduced a new event format in 2017: Pop-Up Stores—ephemeral galleries dedicated to vintage furniture, with the first edition launched in Paris’s Bastille district.
